Indigenous Sovereignty and nothing but.

My opinions are my own and in no way do I claim to speak for anyone but myself. I believe in not censoring my thoughts and if there is something that I believe is unjust or wrong or effed up, then I will say it. I don't censor posts on my journal either, my own or others'. My livejournal is a place where I come to vent a lot of the time as well, so if you are easily offended, be warned.

Cree Nation

I am Cree & Saulteaux (Anishinaabe aka Ojibway), Twospirit (ayekkewe in my language) and a Tribal Nationalist. I am from what has been called "Canada" for the past 138 years but AM NOT Canadian; I'm Cree and my nation is several thousand years older than Canada. I lean toward being trans-identified, (but not man identified), in the indigenous tradition---the so-called "third and fourth gender". I am on my way to becoming fluent in my Kokum's language so that I can speak with my Ancestors in our tongue when I see them. There is a saying about the Red Road-it calls us back, no matter where we go and who we make ourselves to be.

A Nation is not conquered until the hearts of the Women are laying on the ground
-Cheyenne Saying-

I was born in Snow Lake, Manitoba in the winter. I'm a vegetarian (mostly) & would be 100% vegan if I knew how to & could afford it (except when I go back home and gain sustenance from Animals that are given in the traditional way). I write & I paint and I love learning/exploring/trying out different/new things and meeting new people. I don't have a lot of close friends, but the friends I do have are very dear to my heart and I am fortunate enough to be next door neighbors with a couple of them; sadly the others live on the west coast.

Things I believe & am interested in and would like to do/experience more of: growing, taking risks, being frightened of it (whatever "it" might happen to be)but doing it anyway, cultural relativity, change/changing, dynamics, having more than one soulmate, re-incorporation (as opposed to reincarnation), conflict resolution, spiritual growth, my other life as a plant more than once (labrador tea & deer lichen), forgiveness & reconciliation (of self and others), cycles, womanhood, social activism, helping people more, learning more about the world, ideas, myself & exactly how i work, other people and what motivates them, moves them, inspires them, frightens them, lights up their passions, makes them happy, sad, angry, hopeful, compassionate, homoerotic sports, baby squirrels, baby rabbits, sweaty frogs, and oh yeah, biculturality. I have recently begun to explore my own. Fidelity is sexy.

Don't let the cute little sad birdy fool you...this site has explicit gore.

Once the realization is accepted
that even between the closest human beings
infinite distances continue
a wonderful living side by side can grow
if they succeed in loving the distance between them
which makes it possible for each to see the other
whole against the sky.

-Rainer Maria Rilke-

The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it...hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
-Martin Luther King, Jr.-

My politics are simple:
indigenous rights
colonialism

At the moment I'm MIA. I graduated in May '06 with an AB a la Smith College. I double-majored in Sociology & Anthropology and minored in International Relations. I was going to go to IGOV for my Master's in Indigenous Governance partly because it rocks so much and partly because of this man Taiaiake, until I found this lovely little program.

I never want to be "normal", really, but being stable and well-adjusted is just fine by me.

Marriage is love

[CLOSED]
Smith greenhouse June, 2000

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that others won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest
the glory of God that is within us.

It is not just some of us, it is everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

-Nelson Mandela-
1994 Inaugural Address
